The basics of a stroke
According to Robert A.Kuhn, M.D.

What is a Stroke?
A stroke is a sudden failure of part of the working brain.

What sets it off?
Lack of sufficient oxygen to the brain (of whatever cause).

What is the result?
It might be present for only a few moments and then dissapear. Or, it could go to any of the following: *WEAKNESS *PARALYSIS *APHASIA (unable to speak or understand) *DEATH

How can strokes be prevented?
1-By immediate action: The comunity need to be involved in widespread training so they understand signs that warn of a stroke about to happen. Time is of the essence to prevent a crippling catastrophe. The brain should not tolerate being deprived of oxygen, so urgency is critical. Each of us that gains a basic understanding of the way our brain works normally will seek prompt medical attention if they sense something is going wrong. In such instance knowledge is power. For with it, and with awareness that sroke is ideally treatable if it is possible -warnings are caught in time, many deaths and crippled lives will never occur. Like a heart attack, brain attack will then begin to yield to as shares awareness of what might be in store for your brain in years ahead; and what personal responses are required.
2- By long-term action: Life style changes and careful use of appropriate medicines will lessen longer-term risks in the years to come. A rehab process of physical teraphy takes a long time and perseverance.

A stroke victim will never be the same again. But with appropiate atention may return to adapted forms of independent normal life.
